ColdSpotting - Updating to new iOS 13 Privacy guidelines that require Location Services to Display SSID(ie Wifi name).

We are working to make sure users understand an upcoming change in iOS Privacy Policies. During Apple’s WWDC 2019 developer session 713 titled, “Advances in Networking” described how your wifi name(SSID) could be used to track your location, so now users must Opt-In to location services(when using the app) to get the SSID info. ColdSpotting will still work if you choose not to enable location services, but you can't see what network you are testing. If you choose not to Opt-in to that feature, you can always check your SSID by going to your wifi settings(although if you switch from one wifi to another, ColdSpotting can't detect which new network you joined). WWDC Video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/712/ Announced that in iOS 13 it will stop location tracking using your device’s SSID/BSSID using the CNCopyCurrentNetworkInfo API. Apple: "Starting with iOS 13, the CNCopyCurrentNetworkInfo API will no longer return valid Wi-Fi SSID and BSSID information. Instead, the information returned by default will be: SSID: “Wi-Fi” or “WLAN” (“WLAN” will be returned for the China SKU) BSSID: “00:00:00:00:00:00”" Developer Documentation: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/systemconfiguration/1614126-cncopycurrentnetworkinfo The requesting app must meet one of the following requirements: The app uses Core Location, and has the user’s authorization to use location information. The app uses the NEHotspotConfiguration API to configure the current Wi-Fi network. The app has active VPN configurations installed. An app that fails to meet any of the above requirements receives the following return value: An app linked against iOS 12 or earlier receives a dictionary with pseudo-values. In this case, the SSID is Wi-Fi (or WLAN in the China region), and the BSSID is 00:00:00:00:00:00. An app linked against iOS 13 or later receives NULL. Important To use this function, an app linked against iOS 12 or later must enable the Access WiFi Information capability in Xcode. For more information, see Access WiFi Information Entitlement. Calling this function without the entitlement always returns NULL when linked against iOS 12 or later. This function returns NULL for iPad apps running in macOS. With ColdSpotting, you can: Visualize the strength of your network across time and space. Find cold spots where your reception isn't well covered and maximize reception. Diagnose poor or intermittent network performance. Perform site surveys to ensure high-reliability. Test connections using real-world devices. Compare coverage across manufactures and product lines. How it works: We use ARKit, the Augmented Reality framework, provided by Apple, and optimized for their specific iOS hardware. When you tap the screen we take a snapshot of the Wireless Signal Strength at a specific location and draw a virtual box into the scene that is color coded to represent the relative strength of the Wifi in that exact spot(Green is Better, Red is Worse). By moving within a space, you can take samples at different spots to create a map of your network in 3-Dimensional space. App Instructions: Simply Tap your screen to test Strength in a specific location. A Box will appear at that location indicating the strength of your Wifi signal by it's color(Green is Better, Red is worse). By moving around and repeatedly placing multiple points in an area, you can diagnose Cold Spots in your coverage. Data Charges may apply.
